I did this painting many, many years ago, and have held onto it because it's so special to me. The title is Godfry's Pansies. My Grandad, from whom I got my red hair/pale skin/blue eyes, was a huge gardener. He studied agriculture in Holland when he was young, and after the Nazi's blew up much of Holland, came to Minnesota to start a new life. I remember him giggling (he was a tall, big guy, but really did have the cutest giggle) about how his long row of pansy blooms followed the sun like sunflowers do, and he would say, "This time of day, it's like they're all lookin' at ya!" Pansies really do have little faces, and I loved that he got a kick out of them. I loved that guy. This week I did some re-work and some repairs on the painting, and framed it. It's time I finally sell it, mostly because I think he'd tell me it's ridiculous to hold on to something for sentimental reasons if you can make some money from it. (Dutch people: the nicest in the world, yet the most blunt people you'll ever meet. 😆).
