Living Big

Jill Van SickleComment

Hello all and Happy 2019!

As you may have read in my last blog, 2018 was a somber year for me and I have vowed, against all the advice of financial advisors (haha), to stop obsessing about saving for retirement and live a bigger life. Hence, my next big adventure will start in a few weeks, and I’m so excited to see what artwork comes of it. I’m headed to South Africa! This trip will be all about finding inspiration from animals and African landscapes. I’m so excited!

Bringing paint and canvases along on this trip is not an option, logistically, so I’ll be sketching and taking photos to bring home to paint from.

While I’m away I’ll be keeping in touch via Instagram and Facebook.

My Dad and I always talked about taking this trip together. This trip is for you, Pops. ❤️

New Plans and New Paintings

This fall has been an incredibly difficult time for me. As many of you know, my father passed away very suddenly, while we (his family) were with him.

Now that the shock of losing him is wearing off, and my head is a little clearer, I’m faced with re-thinking my life’s goals.

Like my dad, I have been obsessed with earning money to take care of myself, especially for when I’m older. But now, my outlook has changed. What if older never happens?

Why am I telling you this? First, I’d like to introduce you my new series called ‘Scattered.’ These paintings are a representation of how my headspace has felt these past two months. I hope when you look at these pieces you can feel beauty and pain and chaos all at once.

Additionally, I think I’m going to spend more time painting on location. Life is short, and I think I’d better start living (and spending) a little more, instead of obsessively saving money and worrying all the time.

Hopefully by doing this, there will be some interesting new paintings in my future!
